Avoiding Tommy John Surgeries

Unnecessary Pitching Surgeries

Tearing the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) requiring a Tommy John surgery is unnecessary if a pitcher is:

1. Is taught the correct mechanics from the earliest age in systematic and progressive steps.
2. Is video-taped and learns with an instructor the necessary elements of correct pitching mechanics.
3. Routinely practices the physical and mental aspects of pitching in small steps.
4. Learns to throw a curve ball correctly at an early age. Meaning: The curve ball and change are thrown with the identical motion of a fastball. Every pitch before its release will come off the same arm angle, arm speed, pitching motion including lead arm (nothing changes).
5. Control is taught as strike throwing. Later it's progressively learning pitching not randomly throwing to various spots in the strike zone, near, but out of strike zone (make these str-ball pitches look like strikes by teaching catching how to frame all close to strike zone pitches.
6. Add your thoughts!
